by | Dec 12, 2018 | Blogging, Inspiration, Travel Planning | 0 comments

To live a travel life is “everyone’s dream,” many people say, it looks like leaving everything behind and quitting up your work to go and travel around the world is the ideal life.

A trend only or a real need of some?

In the last 5 years, we have begun to see a bombing in the social media of people working with their laptop from the beach or posting a picture of suggesting the idea that the only way to be happy is to give up everything and to travel the world.

Many of those who profess this do it only to be able to sell an image and make money with it and what they generate best in many people is more than motivation a great frustration. But there are also others who really do it and we try to be realistic and share our experience in case you also want to do it.

While living a travel life may be the dream life of some, for others it’s nothing further from their life goals and I believe that in life there are times when one has to be honest with himself and recognize what his heart feels that will be the best step to follow.

Always maintaining awareness of your reality and the possibilities of realizing your ideas, because I hope we are clear that the power to choose this type of life is a gigantic privilege that not everyone can take.

For various reasons, there are many people on this planet who, although they dream it, will never be able to make this their lifestyle for various economic, family, educational, etc. circumstances.

It’s not going to be that to fulfill a dream of traveling you stop being responsible with your family, children if you have them, or stop fulfilling your economic obligations in your country and so many etceteras that I could name here.

THIS IS WHAT YOU WILL FIND IN THIS ARTICLE

  • Good reasons to live a travel life

  • Work and Travel around the World

  • Working Visas

  • Which jobs you can do while you travel?

  • Things to keep in mind before leaving home

Living a traveling life is not for everyone clearly and is not something that should be done to follow a fashion or because it’s a perfect and beautiful life that is painted every day on social media.

Living a life of travel is an option that must be taken with a lot of responsibility and having clear possibilities and realities.

There are several PROs and also against when deciding to lead a traveling life. The beautiful part is that you will live unique experiences and the personal growth you will have will be intense and incomparable to any other previous experience and the benefits can be very positive, such as:

Your cost of living will be cheaper

It’s incredible, but while you travel you can spend much less than when you live in one place.

The costs can be lower depending on the country, in Asia or even in some countries of Europe a monthly lease surrounds the $ 300usd monthly which is difficult to find in many countries. For example, a full department for a month in Chiang Mai in Thailand costs $ 360usd or in Lviv in Ukraine, you find many monthly leases for $ 400 monthly. If you want to live in a shared accommodation in a hostel find options from $ 200usd per month in a clean and nice place.

The secret is to move as slowly as possible since many times the greatest expense is in transportation between one destination and another.

Maturity

Traveling is one of the best ways to grow and learn to see the reality of the world and of ourselves. Traveling we will face situations and problems that we will have to solve quickly and often alone and this experience is infinitely valuable for life.

When you travel you are not just spending your money, you are investing in yourself.

This doesn’t mean that all those who travel have transformative experiences and they all have a change for the better in their lives, but if you are willing to be transformed while traveling you will be able to see how the lived experiences will bring you greater knowledge and undoubtedly maturity.

Experience and culture

To travel and generate profits of some kind, be it emotional, spiritual or economic, you have to plan your trip to be like that.

Traveling is the best way to create awareness of how the world is, seeing how other people live, we can understand that finally, we all deserve respect, all human beings deserve to find the best way to live life and to be happy. You will learn that no one is better than another and that you are just another part of this planet called Earth.

The experience of traveling is the best way to learn. If instead of seeing these famous works directly in the museum where they are exposed or if you learn about architecture, seeing and touching those famous buildings your mind will understand things in a much better and more efficient way.

International relations network

After living in several countries you will have a very wide network and you will make friends who live in different parts of the world. You will have people similar to you to tell or even do business in other places thanks to it.

The moment you want to establish yourself you will have gained a lot of experience.

If you later discover that you want to stop traveling constantly and establish yourself in one place, the experience you will have gained traveling and working in other destinations will serve you for a lifetime.

Leave everything to travel, my personal experience

I always had the dream of doing different things and my way.

Since I was little I knew that things would be done in an unconventional way, since my interests and my way of being as a girl were somewhat unique and very different from what my family expected.

I made thousands of attempts to lead a traditional life, starting three university careers of which I finished one and then working as a physiotherapist from 9 to 19, spending my time, energy and money for someone else’s dreams.

Deep down I knew that life was not for me.

But I was afraid to assume that I wanted to do something different.

I was afraid of what my family and friends would say.

After a car accident that almost took my life and to realizing that having money and being able to buy things, having a nice apartment and friends who were there to validate that was not making me happy, but quite the opposite. There came a time when I could no longer bear to live being infinitely unhappy, working every day basically just for having money and to make others happy.

The worst was realizing I was not even traveling lately, being the thing I usually liked the most since I’m having concience. So I made the decision that I would finally make that trip that I dreamed of in Asia.

The plan started selling all my belongings, closing a beautiful apartment in my favorite neighborhood in Santiago to embark on a trip that would last two years and that gave life to what you know today as Nomadic Chica.

That trip opened my eyes and my soul to recognize what could work for me professionally and I decided that I would dedicate my life to travel and on the way to helping others achieve their dreams.

I’m not going to lie to you and say it’s been very quick and simple just to sell you a course to create your own blog (although I’m creating one for 2019 that I hope will be as concrete and useful as possible). I have always been very honest in everything I publish and although today I live 100% of the creation of digital content has been a long way of more than 5 years! But the wonderful thing is that if you can and it is a path that anyone who has the interest can achieve.

Traveling working around the world

There are many options to generate money while we travel and every day many more are opened. With the development of technology and with more people working remotely or in destinations other than those that saw them born, the world is becoming a more international and diverse world.

The most important advice I can give you when it comes to seeing what to do while you travel is to use and take advantage of your skills.

Beyond the more obvious careers such as flight attendant or airline pilot, there are as many options to work while traveling as there are activities available to develop.

The most important thing is to take into account your tastes and also your abilities.

The second thing is to be clear if you want to work traditionally in a physical place or you prefer to develop your work online. For this, a good strategy is to determine what you want to deliver as a service or product and see how to apply it to the online world.

You will probably need to create a web page and if you want to use the same hosting that I have used for more than 5 years without problems I can recommend Hostgator. Working Visas
How to work legally in another country

At least for me, when I consider working in another country, it is because I think it will be better than doing it in mine. That or the cultural or work experience will be a contribution to my life and that implies several things.

I imagine that one of your doubts will be regarding work permits and taxes, please keep this in mind and value your safety. I do not think it’s very fun to fall into legal problems or in jail for working illegally in another country.

Each country has different regulations and regulations and it is necessary to inform yourself before traveling. There are times when it is necessary to apply for a work visa in advance of the trip.

What jobs can you do while traveling?

I’m listing below some of the options that come to my mind when thinking about what work to do while traveling:

1. Working Holidays

The star of the options and which many people choose is the Working Holidays visa

They are an excellent way to complement travel with generating money and depending on the destination the work options vary. From work in the field to professional work, the common thing is that they are generally in destinations that have a good standard of living and the salaries are higher compared to Chile, which allows us to know a new destination and at the same time finance that trip or even saving money during that period to continue traveling.

Working Holiday visas are a great option when working in another country and each government has different agreements for its citizens.

I remind you that all the information that is shared here is not official information and may vary at any time so you have to personally verify it in the official pages of each embassy or agency in charge.

2. Teaching a Language

It’s one of the most common ways to work in another country. Teaching your mother tongue is an excellent tool to work while you live in another country or even online.

There are several methods and schools that teach in person or online to train as a language teacher and can be one of the best investments for those who think of living traveling.

Teaching Spanish abroad

3. Au pair

There are special visas in many countries for those who want to work taking care of children while they know a little more about the country. It’s a very common activity in Europe and the requirements vary according to each country. Having knowledge of languages, a profession or knowledge of first aid will be a plus when it comes to getting this type of work.

4. Bartender

In the area of services, there are many jobs that can be done while in a foreign country. Specializing in creating cocktails and studying to be a bartender can open doors to destinations where partying is part of daily life, or for holiday destinations and resorts. As in any profession, the more experience you have better options you can find, but it is also always possible to start from scratch and go specializing while traveling the world creating delicious drinks with varied ingredients.

5. Working in a Hostel/Hotel

There are many hostels and small hotels that offer to work in them in exchange for a small salary and in addition to cover the basic needs of food and lodging.

For me, this option is valid only when it includes a payment in addition to offering a place to stay since it’s important to value our time and if you consider that a bed in a hostel costs on average about $ 10usd you will not want that to be only your payment for half a day. work or sometimes more.

6. Waiter/Waitress

One of the jobs that generate very good money in several countries of the world is that of a waiter. In general, the payment is based on a minimum wage, but the profits that you can get to do thanks to tips are close to the salary that many professionals receive.

Myself, during all my years of university, I worked in events and restaurants and earned more than when I looked for my first Physical Therapist job.

7. Working in Vineyards/Farms

This is one of the most popular jobs for seasonal travelers to Australia, New Zealand, and some European countries. They are physically heavy manual jobs but they pay very well for work hours.

Many of those who travel with Working Holiday visas to these countries find this type of work that although physically demanding, saves good money to be able to continue traveling later.

8. Working in Cruises

Working on cruises is an excellent option for those who love to travel and work in direct contact with people. If you like the cruise services area you will have a wide variety of options to work depending on your knowledge and skills.

From serving in bars, restaurants, to the entertainment or health area, cruises are almost like large floating villages that need many workers and in which you will not spend during the days on the move and will allow you to save money for the months that follow.

9. Coach of any area as health, business, career, life, etc.

One of the emerging professions that are being increasingly requested is the coach. This profession will allow you to exercise both personally but also online, so it is very flexible and adaptable to different lifestyles travelers. Hold sessions or workshops in different locations in the world can be your perfect job!

10. Create an import/export business

Buy clothes in India or Turkey, toys in China, household utensils while traveling to be sold in your country of origin when you return. It requires an initial investment of about 5000usd to start but it can bring very good economic benefits and will allow you to continue traveling and grow your business.

11. Dance Instructor, Mountain Guide, Diving, Yoga or Ski

Teaching others what we know best and love is something that is required and valued throughout the world. Depending on the area, it will allow us to move to different destinations following the best season in each one and also to work doing what we like the most!

12. Tourist Guide

One of the activities clearly related to travel and tourism and that can take you to know wonderful places. You can work for large or small companies, give your own tour and even if you certify as a tour guide you can work by taking other people to fulfill their travel dreams and at the same time yours!

13. Translator

If you have different languages, working as a translator can allow you to do this profession not only in your country of origin but also in your favorite destinations. Find the languages that you like the most and for which there is a need in the market and you can travel generating money with it.

14. Digital Nomad

Being able to work from anywhere in the world has become an option and a necessity for many. The options for this are varied and basically any business or profession which may be exercised through a computer online so you can afford to build a business around it that allows you to work independently of the location where you are.

In this range, there are many activities that can be done and the ways to earn money are also very varied and depend on your business model. Some professions that can be exercised digitally are:

  • Journalist, copywriter

One of the professions that can best be developed traveling is that of a journalist or copywriter. Depending on your specialty, you can write and deliver content directly from your computer while you are somewhere in the world.

  • Photography / Videos

Photography and video creation is perfect for those looking to generate money traveling. The flexibility they deliver allows them to develop a business from anywhere in the world and under many different themes.

  • Graphic designer

The main tool of a graphic designer is your computer and it will be what allows you to work anywhere in the world.

  • Virtual assistant

I know many friends who are dedicated to travel and keep social media accounts of other professionals who do not have time to do it themselves.

A virtual assistant can develop their work from anywhere with an internet connection and the options are many!

  • Create your own technology startup

There are specialized destinations to receive new technology entrepreneurs and creators of Startups, with many coworking, virtual offices, and cheap services as well as a community that works and lives of something similar. • International marketing, anthropology and market studies

It is an area that requires traveling and getting involved in the population to study to develop it and an area that the marketing world needs nowadays to advance to new markets.

Where to find cheap accommodation

If your plan is to live traveling you will wonder how to determine where you will stay and for that there are different options depending on your travel style.

If you plan to stay several weeks in the same place, what is undoubtedly more convenient is to rent for long stays in the same place. In places like AirBnb or in Booking.com you can find very good offers for it.

There are also places where you can exchange accommodation, such as Couchsurfing, to do volunteer work in exchange for food and accommodation such as Woofing or Workaway, or even to take care of pets or houses through HouseSitting

Things to keep in mind before you leave

Leave your networks well consolidated.

If you still have bank accounts or any pending account or business in your country, a very good idea is to have someone who can help you if you need it.

If you will leave clients with whom you will work from a distance, create solid bonds and give them the assurance that you will comply even if you are not physically present. To leave determined a plan of action and of commitments very detailed and precise.

Ideally, have a local ally that can contact you with new clients or support you in whatever is necessary.

Pay your debts

You want to go quiet and with all your outstanding accounts settled or with a realistic and achievable payment plan to be able to start quietly in another place.

Have a credit card or international bank account to receive payments.

You will need to have a bank account where you can deposit your money. It can be an account in your country that also allows you to make transfers with a very low or zero commission and also an account that allows international transfers in case you receive payments in foreign currency.

Health insurance !!

The first thing you should have after taking out your passport and your passages is health insurance.

Even if you are very healthy and never go to the doctor, traveling can happen unexpected things and having an accident or getting sick while abroad can be very expensive if you do not have insurance.

I recommend the World Nomads that is created especially for travelers and digital nomads who travel constantly.

Now that you have a better idea of what some of the options are for traveling, I hope you have your head clearer and your soul jumping with emotion knowing what your next steps will be!

If it has served you and you plan to implement it, tell me how you are doing and if you are already doing it, we would love to know your story so that others can be inspired by your experience!
