If you are planning your trip to Italy, Florence is most probably included in your itinerary and if it’s not, you should consider it.

Florence is one of the most famous cities in Italy and with a reason, it’s a very charming city to visit with so much cultural offer and historical places to see that it’s impossible to get bored.

Florence Italy Travel Hotels and Neighborhoods to stay in the city

While I was personally a bit disappointed with Florence and I had big expectations about it, I honestly thought it will be prettier and not as crowded as it was, but we were there in the high season in middle July, so it is completely normal to have crowds all over Europe. I still found it a lovely city you can love with time and I would go back to explore more.

Especially if you are into art, consider this is the city where Renaissance began during the 14th century, it hosts one of the biggest museums in the country, the Uffizi museum which gathers collections from Botticelli, Caravaggio, and Michelangelo.

If you are having a short time, there are good options to take a guided tour in the Accademia Gallery and see with your own eyes the David of Michelangelo, or to drive with a Hop-on-Hop-off bus to see the city from a double-decker bus.

Practical Information about Florence

– Currency:
Euro (EUR).
– Spoken languages: Italian.
– Best time to visit from April to October but be aware that in summer temperatures can go very warm.
– How to get to FLORENCE: Via the International Airport Firenze-Peretola FLR, is the international airport of Florence, the second-busiest Tuscan airport in terms of passengers after Pisa International Airport.
To get to the city at a 10km distance, you can do by light-train, bus, taxi or local bus driving every half-hour.
Trains are a great way to travel in Italy too and Florence Central station is very well connected with Pisa, Rome, and Livorno

Are you planning your trip to PISA? You can FIND HERE the best neighborhoods to stay in Pisa and see the Leaning tower while enjoying the best food in the city and surroundings.

Booking your hotel in Florence

The biggest advantage in Florence is the size of the city, being medium size and very compactly organized, it’s very easy to find accommodation within walking distance to most of the major attractions located in the city center.

I would definitely save at least three full days to explore Florence and if you like art and museums leave one day to visit the Uffizi museum.

There are two main areas to choose to book your hotel in Pisa:

  • The city center around the Duomo and San Lorenzo
  • The area in the sides of the Arno river in Ponte Vecchio and Oltrarno
  • The area around Santa Croce
  • Staying in the Hills around Florence

Staying in central Florence

Florence Italy Travel Hotels and Neighborhoods to stay in the city

Florence city center is the perfect location if your plan is to visit the museums, churches, palaces and major sights.

With most of the famous attractions located here like the Cathedral and its beautiful Duomo, Piazza Della Signoria, the Uffizi museum, Santa Maria Novella, and Santa Croce churches, the Arno River and the famous Ponte Vecchio the city center is the best area to book your hotel.

You can walk within 30 minutes to any point in this area and is especially good to stay here if you don’t have much time to visit the city or you don’t want to stress too much thinking about transportation.

The only negative point of staying right in the city center is that some areas are always crowded, so it will depend on your nerves which place will suit better your preferences.

Florence is a wonderful place to enjoy if your budget is not restricted, with a great offer in luxury hotels and great dining options if you are willing to pay for quality, you will get it!

If you are traveling on a budget consider Florence is not a cheap city and budget accommodations are not the main offer in the city, so try to book your hostel in advance to fit your wallet.

Booking in Italy tips
We had a hard time when booking apartments in Italy.
It was very often hard to deal with the owners of the places that were definitely not what was shown in the pictures.
I would recommend you book hotels/hostels with a good amount of reviews
