Every hour in a new destination counts!

On my way to South America, I’ve had a stopover in the beautiful city of Amsterdam.

I had available several hours waiting for my connecting flight to the US and thanks to the incredible friendliness and efficiency of the KLM operators at Schipol airport, I could check my bag too early before the flight.

Without thinking twice and seeing he had available several hours at the airport began my way to tour the city -besides the idea of eating THE best french fries was impossible to waste-.

To go from Schipol airport to the city center the easiest way is by train , the station is connected to the airport.

Amsterdam Holanda nomadicchica.comThe ticket has a value of 9 € round trip and runs every 15 minutes between 6:00 AM and 12:30 AM .

You can pay with cash or credit cards –keep in mind that, as well as in many parts of Europe, they don’t accept American Express-.

There’s also electronic machines to buy the tickets.

Trains depart from platforms 1,2 or 3.

This time it came from the platform # 3 and returning from the 14th from Amsterdam Centraal Station.

The trip takes 20 minutes from the airport to Amsterdam’s city center, where are located most of the attractions of this city.

Make sure you take the right train.

You can check the train schedule on the screens that exist on each platform.

The train should go in the direction of Amsterdam Centraal Station, don’t take those going to Amsterdam RAI, Amsterdam Zuid or Amsterdam Bijlmer, they go through a totally different line!

Store your luggage

At the airport, there is a luggage storage area with a system of closed individual lockers.

They are located in Terminal 2 on the basement -3 .

Payment is made by credit cards with an electronic payment system located between the boxes, everything is done manually and personally.

There are different boxes with prices varying according to the time you want to keep your saved articles.

For 24 hours the values are:

– € 7 for small parts

– € 9 for large pieces

You can store luggage for up to 168 hours -7 days-. There is a luggage room where luggage can be stored for up to a month and is located between Terminals 1 and 2. Its value is 7 € per 24 hours the first 8 days, and € 6 extra days. Schipol Airport has free Wifi 24 hours.Amsterdam Holanda nomadicchica.com

To return to the airport

Calculate your time well to return to the time you need, this includes your check-in and baggage drop off. Considers that certain dates and times of day are busier than others.
In Amsterdam Centraal Station are screens showing the trains, schedules, and platforms from where trains depart.

Generally, those who goes daily to the Schipol airport depart from platforms 10, 13, 14 or 15. These trains operate between 06:00 and 00:30 and during the night they run at every hour.
Once in the city just to enjoy the beauty of this amazing European city.

  1. I LOVE Amsterdam. I stayed on a houseboat with my 12-year-old daughter last year and it will forever be one of my favorite cities, I’m sure. I’d go back in a heartbeat, and I will be back for sure!

  2. My 1st time crossing an ocean was to go to Amsterdam back in 2003. I’ve visited twice since and appreciate the city more & more every time. The amount of Argentine restaurants was a real surprise! I love walking cities. My favorites in my country are NYC, San Francisco, Boston & Washington, D.C.
